Hymnary.org is an online hymn and worship music database for worship leaders, hymnologists, and amateur hymn lovers alike. It is a project of the Christian Classics Ethereal Library and the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship in partnership with The Hymn Society in the United States and Canada. I serve on the editorial board of Hymnary.org, and am also currently the Director of Research for The Hymn Society.
The goal of Hymnary.org is to be a comprehensive, reliable site for all information hymnological. It currently indexes over 5,000 hymnals, and was a recipient of a two-year National Endowment for the Humanities grant to digitize over 2,000 of them from Princeton Theological Seminary. You can search or browse hymns by title, tune, meter, key, scripture reference, and more. You can see graphs of how often a hymn has been published, and can often find biographical information about tune and text writers as well. I have also recently added a searchable, updated version of Hymnal Collections of North America (go to the “Explore” section) that guides users to collections held by museums, libraries, and private collectors.
Hymnary.org is a nonprofit, open access database. If you are interested in helping to add data, proofread, or help in any other way, please let me know at schneider.290@osu.edu.
