Chief Logan Speech Anniversary from WBEX AM

Photograph of Logan Elm on June 11, 1899. At this site Chief Logan of the Mingo Tribe delivered his powerful speech on relations between white settlers and Native Americans in 1774. The tree, once considered one of the largest elm trees in the country, was removed in 1964 after being damaged by storms.
*Archaeology Day at the Campus Martius Museum in Marietta was a success!

About this event, Bill Pickard, assistant curator of archaeology said:
“Kids don’t get a good handle on pre-history or history, but being involved in something like this event gives them the appreciation that something happened in the world before now.”
*Repairs and new exhibits are underway at the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center in Wilberforce.
