Columbus 200th Anniversary Exhibits

The Riffe Gallery and Columbus Historical Society both have new exhibits celebrating the capital city’s 200th anniversary.

The Riffe Gallery exhibit, 100 Years of Art: Celebrating Columbus’ Legacy, runs January 26 to April 15, 2012. Among the pieces on display is a painting from the Ohio Historical Society’s fine art collection, Hocking Valley Picnic by David Broderick Walcutt.

The Riffie Gallery is located at 77 South High Street, Columbus.
The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Tuesday 10 – 4 P.M.
Wednesday and Friday 10 – 5:30 P.M.
Thursday 10 – 8 P.M.
Saturday and Sunday noon – 4 P.M.

The Columbus Historical Society has moved to new offices at COSI. On February 14 they opened a new exhibit celebrating the city’s history. Among the artifacts of the city’s history on display are items from the Ohio Historical Society’s collections, including:

The compas the Lucas Sullivant used to plat Franklinton

The compas that Joel Wright used to plat Columbus

A Staffordshire platter with a scene depicting Columbus in the 1830s

A ceramic pot and flint point made by Native Americans and found in Franklin County
