Our local public television station, WOSU, has finished the latest installment of their documentary series Columbus Neighborhoods. The program about the University District, the most densely populated neighborhood in the city, is set to air on Thursday, October 6 at 8 PM.
As they have for previous installments of the Columbus Neighborhoods series, WOSU staff mined the Ohio Historical Society’s photographic archives for images of the University District, such as the first Big Bear grocery store on W. Lane Ave.

Shoppers at the Big Bear supermarket on Lane Ave., Columbus, Ohio, June 1952. This store, opened in 1934, was the first Big Bear store and the first supermarket in central Ohio.
Tune in and learn more about Columbus history!
