OHS Finding Aids are Online in Ohio Memory

Does the Historical Society have personal papers or correspondence of a particular person? Do we have photographs of a certain town or place?  It is possible to answer questions like this by searching the OHS Finding Aids Collection in Ohio Memory.

Ohio Memory was updated and relaunched earlier this year.  The Finding Aid Collection is one of the best new features.  It is now possible to search by key word the full text of finding aids for manuscript, photograph and audiovisual materials in the OHS archives.

Finding aids are detailed inventories prepared for manuscript, photograph and audiovisual collections. They include background information about archival collections, such as the creator of the collection; the date range of the collection; historical information about the collection; and when it was donated to the Historical Society. Finding aids also provide brief box, folder and sometimes item level descriptions of the papers, ephemera, photographs and other materials that comprise collections.

Providing online access to OHS finding aids is an ongoing project. We will continue adding more finding aids for new and existing collections to Ohio Memory as they are processed. Archival materials described in our finding aids are available for use in the main reading room of the Archives/Library at the Ohio Historical Center in Columbus. For more information about how to view items in-person, visit the Archives/Library page.
